The terms on which we trade.
Last updated: 9 May 2026
These terms apply to anyone using thesecretlawyer.netlify.app, guides.thesecretlawyer.co.uk, or any of the digital products we sell. By using the site or buying a guide, you agree to these terms.
1. Who we are
This site is operated by The Secret Lawyer (referred to as "we", "us", or "TSL"). Registered trading address: 61 Bridge Street, Kington, HR5 3DJ, United Kingdom.
Contact: info@thesecretlawyer.co.uk.
2. What we sell
We provide:
- Free guides on UK employment law topics, delivered by email after you sign up with your email address.
- Paid digital guides sold through our partner Payhip, delivered as instant PDF downloads after purchase.
All content is general educational information about employment law in England and Wales. It is not, and is not intended to be, legal advice on your specific situation. See section 8 for the full disclaimer.
3. Eligibility and jurisdiction
Our content is written for employees and individuals dealing with workplace issues in England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland have different employment law regimes and our guides are not designed for them.
You must be at least 18 years old to purchase a guide.
4. Pricing, payment, and delivery
Prices for paid guides are shown on each product page in pounds sterling and include any applicable VAT. Payment is processed by Payhip using card or other accepted methods.
Once payment is confirmed, you receive an immediate email containing a download link for the PDF. The download link is also available from your Payhip purchase confirmation page.
If you do not receive your download within 15 minutes of purchase, check your spam folder, then email info@thesecretlawyer.co.uk with your order number and we will resend.
5. Refunds
Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, your right to cancel a digital download contract ends as soon as the download begins. By proceeding to checkout and confirming the purchase, you expressly agree that the download may begin immediately and you give up your right to cancel.
Practical position: digital guides are non-refundable once the download link has been issued. The product page for each guide includes a full table of contents so you can see exactly what is inside before buying.
If a file genuinely will not open or is corrupted, contact us at info@thesecretlawyer.co.uk and we will fix the file or refund you. This applies to genuine technical issues, not changes of mind.
6. Intellectual property
All written content, design, layout, and templates within our guides and on this site are owned by The Secret Lawyer, or licensed for use here.
When you buy a guide, you may:
- Read and use it for your own personal situation
- Print one copy for your own use
- Adapt the templates inside (such as grievance letters or appeal templates) using your own facts
You may not:
- Republish, resell, or redistribute the guide or its contents
- Share the PDF file or download link with others
- Use the templates as a basis for paid services to other people
- Reproduce content for commercial training or coaching
7. Acceptable use of the site
You agree not to use the site or our content to:
- Break the law, including data protection or intellectual property law
- Send unsolicited communications using contact details obtained from the site
- Attempt to access systems or accounts you are not authorised to access
- Introduce malicious code, viruses, or any technical harm
8. Important: this is not legal advice
Read this carefully. Our content is general educational information about UK employment law. It is not legal advice on your specific situation, and we do not enter into a solicitor-client relationship with you when you read a free guide, sign up for an email, or buy a paid guide.
Employment law is complex and depends heavily on the facts of your situation, your employment contract, and current legislation, which can change.
For advice on your specific situation, you should consult a qualified employment solicitor regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Many offer one-off consultations.
You are responsible for your own decisions and actions taken based on information from our guides.
9. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
- Any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded
Subject to that, we are not liable for any:
- Loss of income, profit, employment, or business opportunity
- Loss arising from a tribunal claim, dismissal, settlement outcome, or any other employment matter
- Indirect or consequential losses
Our maximum aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or in connection with our guides is limited to the amount you paid for the guide in question.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The updated date at the top of this page shows when the most recent change was made. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. For purchases already made, the terms in force at the time of purchase apply.
11. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms and any dispute arising under them are governed by the law of England and Wales. Disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
